leica iiif film developed and printed
I got my first roll of film back from North Coast Photographic Services (http://northcoastphoto.com) today and they did a great job of not only delivering some nice looking prints, but also an FTP for me to download full size jpegs. Since this was my first roll of film to shoot since about 1998 I did not have high expectations, especially shooting on a rangefinder from 1950 with no light meter and questionable focusing mechanics... I was pleasantly surprised to get back 34 out of 36 frames and below are some of my favorites. It's really fun to be shooting on film again even if I'm not doing the darkroom work. :)
perfect day for an americano at fallbrook coffee co
sunny and 70 in fallbrook today with two hours to kill in-between shoots. It's days like these that I am really grateful for making the scary decision to quit my old corporate job 2 years ago.
If you're ever in fallbrook, ca check out http://fallbrookcoffeeco.com... outstanding

lemon tree | carmel valley | ca
it's becoming increasingly difficult to post on a daily basis as i get into the heart of spring and i'm working up to 12 or 13 hours a day, so unfortunately I may be relegated to posting on the weekends only until my schedule begins to loosen up a bit. I was shooting a home in Carmel Valley last night and sitting under a lemon tree waiting for the sun to set to begin shooting twilight photos. It was pretty dark already so I bounced my strobe flash off the side of the house and ended up with some nice light.
weekend moments
baby owl at the barn
We found this little guy out for his first attempt at flight today. Both parents were nearby keeping an eye on him and thankfully didn't dive-bomb me when I got pretty close to take this photo. Pretty impressive talons going on already and about a 4 foot wingspan.

1950 Leica IIIf with Summitar 50mm f/2
When I first fell in love with photography in the early 90's it was while shooting on film and developing in a darkroom. I haven't shot on film since 1998 so I was pretty excited to find this gorgeous 1950 Leica IIIf on craigslist a few weeks ago. I popped my first roll of Ilford 400 B&W this morning and downloaded a light meter for my phone. Looking forward to seeing my first 36 exposures... and hopefully they aren't a bunch of under and over-exposed disasters. I'll be posting some of the images here in the next few weeks assuming they aren't. On a side note I find it pretty funny how after every shot I've taken so far on this camera I chimp the back only to be staring at black leather.

todays respite
brother's provisions might be the best place to grab lunch, get some work done and enjoy a beer that you can't find anywhere else all at the same time. RB GOAT
Arlene Gottfried’s New York
through the eyes of her brother, gilbert gottfried
From the nineteen-seventies until her death last August, at the age of sixty-six, the photographer Arlene Gottfried combed New York City’s streets, parks, beaches, subways, and night clubs, in search of the shock of recognition one sometimes finds in perfect strangers. She understood the fractions of confidence and insecurity that make a public face. She liked sharp cheekbones and weird, pillowy proportions; she liked kids who comported themselves like adults, with laden, sphinx-like features. When Gottfried died, she left behind fifteen thousand pictures... read more
moving day
we moved Rome from his home of the past 3 years to his new home in Elfin Forest. A couple of freakouts and a few rope burns but he arrived in one piece to his new home.

been a while
I've been struggling to post anything in the past several days for a multitude of reasons. first and foremost I've been battling a pretty good head cold since saturday night, and secondly, I worked 13 hour days Monday and Tuesday. Thankfully a little bit of a respite today and tomorrow so hopefully can get over this thing soon. Here are the boys watching the sunset and eating moths.
